Allow the coating its specified drying time before judging the result.
Patchy paint & flashing
Different sheen or colour patches remain visible after painting.
- Filled areas standing out from the surrounding wall.
- Roller overlaps, shiny patches or uneven colour in side lighting.
What might cause it?
Similar-looking defects can have different causes. Assessment comes before product choice.
Uneven absorption, unsealed repairs, application differences or unsuitable drying conditions can cause variations in appearance.
How we approach it
Assess absorption and the preparation of repairs, and seal where required.
Use consistent application and the specified coverage and recoat times; finish a complete area where appropriate.
Adding more paint without checking the cause may not help. Confirm product compatibility and avoid overworking paint as it dries. Check current product technical data, safety instructions and compatibility; this guide is not a site diagnosis or a guaranteed repair specification.
Product selection matters
A suitable primer or sealer may be part of the preparation, but it cannot replace fixing the cause. Zinsser is one of the brands we use; the exact product depends on the surface, defect and intended finish.
